Favela Inc is a new non profit organisation which has been born in Brasil, Rio de Janeiro. An organisation which aims to work with and for the urban low-income communities known as favelas. These communities have been stereotyped for ages and still to this day live under the shadow of these preconceptions. But how many people have actually lived in a favela, immersed themselves into the culture and became friends with locals in order to give an opinion based on real facts and emotions? We did, and we can safely say that it has been the most inspiring journey of our lives. The people have an immense desire to pursue their passions and to contribute to the well being of the community, yet live quite isolated from the “more developed” areas due to the poorly documented media that shapes a negative image about them. That type of media that we all know that likes to pick only on the downsides of something because they believe it makes it more appealing. Sadly, consciously or not, most people listen to these informations and take them as they are, without going further into the matter and look for authentic information, or, to go one step further, going to experience the matter themselves.

Ao longo desse tempo, as escolas do grupo Mopi vem avançando sistematicamente, não apenas acompanhando − como instituição viva que é − todas as evoluções sociais, econômicas, tecnológicas e comportamentais da sociedade nas últimas décadas, mas indo além, sempre de olho no futuro que será protagonizado por nossos alunos. A Cultura Maker sempre esteve presente no Mopi, a Tunnel Lab veio para incentivar ainda mais o que já estava presente nas raízes das escolas do Grupo Mopi.

The world is changed by those who think differently. An inspired child, a child who had found a fresh perspective at a young age, will drive the ideological change in the developing world. The future is decided by the current children and it is our goal at ACE to inspire as many children from marginalized communities as possible, to be different, to reject the status quo and build a future that they are included in. The future of Brazil is important to the world, and the future of Brazil starts in the favelas.
